We calculate our standards through the use of time studies currently for single element only. It appears as though we need to multiply our standard by the number of elements, which may be accomplished through some sort of standard calculation that we are unfamiliar with. Do you have any knowledge on a method that would aid us? Thanks and sorry for the long post.

-TS

Edited by ra5156 - 01 Apr 2011 at 9:24am

    Author: Dick
Subject: Earned Hours Calculation
Posted: 31 Mar 2011 at 10:01am

If you change from single Element (variable) to multiple Element standards, you will need to change how you think about the standards for the Elements:

When Activities have one Element, they are expressed in Units per Hour. Here is an example:

   Activity: Order Picking

Element Standard
   Cartons 75 per Hour

Earned hours are calculated like this:

   150 Cartons Picked / 75 per Hour = 2 Earned Hours

When Activities have 2 or more elements, they are set in Minutes per Unit. Here is an Example:

Activity: Order Picking

   Element Standard
    Orders 2.00 Minutes
    Lines 0.50 Minutes
    Cartons 0.25 Minutes

Earned hours are calculated like this:

     5 Orders x 2.00 Minutes = 10 Minutes
    60 Lines x 0.50 Minutes = 30 Minutes
   200 Cartons x 0.25 Minutes = 50 Minutes
                                 --------------
                       Total   =  90 Minutes
                      Divide by 60 Minutes/Hour
                                 -------------------
                                   1.50 Earned Hours

To toggle between Element Standards being expressed in Units per Hour or Minutes per Unit, edit an Activity and on the General Tab, click the setting for how Standards are Displayed. THis setting does not change how the standards are stores for an Activity, it is simple how the standard time is displayed. YOu can togle back and forth between these settings at any time based on how many elements are on an activity.

The Proration setting that you mentioned has nothing to do with standards or the calculation of Earned Hours. It is a very seldom used feature that controls how actual hours are entered into a ProRep daily production sheet. Proration is never used when data is entered on ProRep Kiosks or being imported from a WMS, Pick-to-Light or Time & Attndance system.

ProRep : Earned Hours Calculation

    Author: ra5156
Subject: Earned Hours Calculation
Posted: 31 Mar 2011 at 7:49am

We are attempting to use multi-variable standards in order to maintain better accuaracy with activity standards in our facility. For example:

Activity A will have two elements recorded and both will have a standard. These elements are performed simultaneously therefore if an associate performing Activity A produces more of Element 1 but less of Element 2, the performance will balance out. ProRep calculates the Earned Hours by taking the Total Units for Element 1 divided by its standard, then adding that to Element 2 divided by its standard.

     E1 Total/E1 Standard + E2 Total/E2 Standard
           = Combined Earned Hours

In our samples this method of Earned Hour Calculation doubles the Earned Hours opposed to the Measured Hours. The solutions would be to have the Earned Hours calculated by dividing the above Combined Earned Hours by the Total Elements. In this case it would be 2. My question is can ProRep do this? Or is this an instance where Prorating Measured Hours would be beneficial? Thank you for any help you can provide.

-TS

Edited by ra5156 - 31 Mar 2011 at 7:53am
